a. How do students learn?
Students learn in many different ways. There are musical, logical, existential, interpersonal, kinesthetic, intrapersonal, naturalist, verbal and visual learners. Most children learn by expression.
To have a child learn in a class room, it's going to be very important to figure out early on what learning method they are. 12 years ago I took the MI test and it said I was a kinesthetic learner. This time around I was an intrapersonal which I don't agree at all.

b. What are the 6 components of language arts? How does teaching language arts connect to how children learn?
The 6 components are listening, talking, reading, writing, viewing and visually. Teaching language arts connects to learn because they all fall into the way each child learn. For example: talking for our musical children, visually for the visual learners, writing for kinesthetic, and so on. Most of the components overlap each other which is almost effective in lesson planning.
I found it very interesting and helpful learning the 6 language arts. How to incorporate all is going to be a challenge because at the end of the day we want our students to go home and tell someone what exciting learning experience they learn that day in school.

a. Give a brief summary of chapter 1.
Chapter 1 was about values, child development, language development, personality development and social development. Values I believe change from family, culture, and even gender. Child development; a child must pass through these stages to reach maturity. 1. Language development 2. cognitive development 3. personality development 4. social development.

b. Values, What is a value? What value is important to you & why? Where did you learn this value? Can you teach this value? How do you?
A value is a principle or standard, what is important in life. I cant just point out one value being more important then another one. I start thinking about them more in depth and I change my value. I would probably pick wisdom, family, and health as my top three. First of all I would like to be healthy to see my family and become wise. I think we could probably teach some values by being role models. If I eat healthy food so will my children and it lets them know that health is important. A person that has a close family, supports the fact that family is an important value but if they've been abuse or neglected they probably wont think the same. As far as wisdom, I think that we cant teach it. With this value you need to earn it with time and experience.

GIVE AN EXAMPLE OF A TEACHER THAT YOU FEEL WAS A GOOD TEACHER AND WHY?
Mr. Castillo taught college algebra at Palo Alto College. I just really enjoyed his class he explain what purpose each math problem and situation it was used in the real world. I know before I could figure out why we needed to learn the Pythagorean theory and what not. He called use future mathematicians and a t one point I felt I could become a doctor, engineer, or chemist.
I loved his class because i learn math and their was a very good reason why and who use math. I was very interesting in knowing more about Alejandra, all these other people he would mention and read about them. Most of the people he talked about he said the church and others could understand their work and accused them of being crazy and sending them away. After they were died they were like "oh she wasn't cray after all" she was a genius. I still think I would like to go into being a math teacher. Math is a universal language !
