What is modern fantasy?
Modern fantasy is literature that is set in the real world, but the author has altered one or more characteristics of everyday reality.
Design a unique activity for your book , describe it? name, directions, steps.

I grew up with so many monster stories I was really scared of almost everything. Even as an adult I'm scared to have my foot or hand hanging out of the bed because I'm scared someone is going to grab it. Right now my 3 yr old says that chucky is under the bed and in his drawers. He talks about Michael Myers and he's never seen these movies but the older kids tell him stuff. It was funny because everyone in the house was exited on Friday the thirteen and my 3yr old would go around running Michael Jackson, Michael Jackson the kids would laugh and tell him no silly its Michael Myers.

I would like to do my activity based on the book " The Monster Bed" by Jeanne Willis.
This book is a twist the common "Monsters under the bed". This time the monster is scared that their are human kids under his bed. The main character is Dennis the monster and the little boy WHO comes out of his bed is about 4 yrs old.

Name: ( of the activity) My friend the monster or
The kind of monster I'll be

Directions:( for me I like to have an idea, picture, imagination something that'll get me focus and ready to write) The students will create their own monster, Or if they choose what kind of monster they'll be, how would they look like. After creating their personal monsters, write a short story about them.

Steps: 1. Read the story " The Monster Bed"
2. Discuss/ask questions: How the monster felt being afraid of children like them.
Who is afraid at night and how they could change the feeling after reading this story?
3. Gather materials; colors, markers, construction paper, paper plates etc...
4. Briefly explain what they are going to use the materials for and the choose they had to
be a monster or have a friend monster.
5. Incorporate Talk as an activity to allow children to explain what kind of monster they'll
be or who their monster friend is.
6. Now that they had gather though and idea to write a short story about who they are or
adventures they had with their friend the monster.

Talk is the ability to communicate instruction and information to another person.

Talk is benefical in a classroom because speaking outloud and to peers helps comprehend information. We need to talk to also have the right pronunciation of words.I think we need to practice more talking in school to push the students to become more independent and learn how to carry themself.
Students can have discussion during math. There are many rules and sometimes students remember some better than others. The student could then check or ask her group by engagging conversation and with practice be successful in math. Debates in Social studies is another way to incorporate talk. For example ask if they ageree with battles and segregation. Ask how they feel about what people during these eras had to go through. Talking is very easly to engage yet its going to be hard for me to try to keep them with the topic. First we need to insure that there is no right or wrong answer. Second make them feel comfortable and third encourage them by having them talk alittle about themselves to get confidence. Speaking in a known environment is much better then speaking in a strange completely dark environment.

Traditional Literature

Traditional literature are childbase stories told from generation to generation.

Teaching traditional literature in classes is really a great opportunity to introuced the simple, basic fundamentals of life. Children learn that struggling against diffculties is unavoidable, but they can emerge victoriously if they directly confront harships. Traditonal stories allow children to learn about human progress and possible solutions to problems. They gain the conviction that crime dosent pay.
We could useTraditional stories in our classrooms as models to explain why we need enforce rules. I can also use them as motivational tools, for example the " The Hare and the Tortoise". With this story I can explain to the students that anything is possible if they dont give up and keep trying. I am going to use traditional stories in the class room. I have learned and read so many books this past week. I think I would of liked to of had someone introduced this books to me as a child. These stories open door to imagination and I think that is very important in students to promote writing.

1. What are picture books? When can you use them? How? Are there any limitations?
Picture books are book that have illustration some don't have word s but other do and they reflects on what the story is about. They have to be concurrent with each other. We can use picture books before we have journal entries, so that child's mind can start thinking of ideas and remembering events that they have been through to make their writing more smother. Their is always limitation to almost everything, in this case it is good to have the children think up / imagine their own pictures in their mind. They say that in this age in time our children are growing up without out an imagination and don't have the same creativity and appreciation that children that did have an imagination.

2. How do you evaluate or select picture books? What is the process? The most important in choosing a picture book is that the are accurate the pictures should have something doing with the story.

3. Personal views on picture books? Like? dislike? Why?
I like picture books, I like knowing how the character of the book looks like and what a certain animal look like or what is a certain item that the book refers to. What I don't like is that I would prefer to look at the pictures other than reading it.

EDRG 3344

1.Define listening types ?Give personal examples.
There are four listing types discriminative: Pick/chose based on interest (Bold Face).
aesthetic: reading out loud/pleasure/SSR
efferent: information/taking notes
critical: listing carefully/debate
Discriminative: When I am cleaning the house I have the TV on and when I hear something that I need to see I'll go watch it then go on with my chores.
Aesthetic:When I read bedtime books to the kids.
Efferent: During class I take notes to remember what the lesson was about.
Critical: Last week at the hospital I had to pay close attention to the instruction the doctor was telling to care for my son who sprang his foot.

2.What was the most challenging part of the debate? Why? what aspect of listening did you use? Explain with details?
The most challenging part of the debate for me was trying to find the right words to use.
It is difficult to have a quick response, but some people are quick on their toes. I think we used critical listening. We had to pay close attention to their response so we could defend ourselves.

3. Finish reading Ch. 2 Choice Words which teach talk is important to you? Why?
I think I liked "What are you noticing", with this question we can keep the children's attention in what we are doing and also have a better understanding if they are keeping up with the lesson/subject. I often wonder off but when I am called on or if the teacher ask a question it brings me back to paying attention. Its also amazing how we all think differently and sometimes we learning seeing other peoples point of view.

3344 question 2

2. Capable writers; write for the audience purpose and use appropriate form. They have a goal in writing utilizing the writing process as self assess using differentiated between genres.

3321question 2

2. Write 2 activities that a student can do in a class room with both multicultural and international books.
The activities that I would like to do in a class room for both multicultural and international literature is role playing. I think it would be fun to make (draw) costumes and play scenery and have a play in the class room. We can also write a different ending to a particular story or make a book about our (student) culture.Maybe about a folks tale that has been told in our family ( I know my grandma has told us many). There are lots of things that happen in once neighborhood that can become stories.
