Traditionaly tribes would tell stories around campfires. For many years and in many parts of the world. Story telling is a big part of or life. We learn the cause and effect in why things are done in a certain way. Stories teach faith, hope and wisdom. In Europe children were considered young adults. Also in European oral tration they often lictured on castles and cottages. The French introduced "Cinderella". They story told about "happy ever after", the poorest most humble person always ended up happy at the end. Trying to influnce ones behavior. The first book was published in 1450s by Johannes Gutenberg. William Caxton also opened a printing business but his book where alittle expensive for common people. In the 17th century Charles Perrault published "Tales of mother Goose". He was the first writer to understand that children had a special bond with fairy tales. By the end of the 1740s people realized that children should be children rather than small adults.
As a personal connection literature, has been a part of our past and future way of life. Today in America more specifically in west side of San Antoinio we have writers coming from the Barrios writing the experiance and life style of a regular child from that time. We the people who grew up there at that same time understand the life style and the saddness and troubles from this place. There are many success stories from poor people who have made it big and we all like to belive it could happen to us someday too.
This information applies in in the class room because it helps me understand that we can make a differance in a child life. Opportunities and success dossent just happen to anyone we place the children and push them to be successful and give them the opportunity to be taught in an enviorment were both student and teacher are working to have a better future and life style.

good obseration claudia on pointing out that depending what community an individual lives in their literature will reflect it. like how you mentioned the west side of san antonio and the writers of the barrio, their stories would be relateable to the community of that area versus someone from minnesota writing about their experiences. the barrio writer is more related-able to the west side community because its readers could relate to the writers topics. although still portraying the views and topics of the minnesota author, to give the students a diverse reading selection.
ReplyDeleteThis was a good connection you made with our west side literature. I really liked how you mentioned the barrio because our community is really expressed in our writing.
