What is modern fantasy?
Modern fantasy is literature that is set in the real world, but the author has altered one or more characteristics of everyday reality.
Design a unique activity for your book , describe it? name, directions, steps.

I grew up with so many monster stories I was really scared of almost everything. Even as an adult I'm scared to have my foot or hand hanging out of the bed because I'm scared someone is going to grab it. Right now my 3 yr old says that chucky is under the bed and in his drawers. He talks about Michael Myers and he's never seen these movies but the older kids tell him stuff. It was funny because everyone in the house was exited on Friday the thirteen and my 3yr old would go around running Michael Jackson, Michael Jackson the kids would laugh and tell him no silly its Michael Myers.

I would like to do my activity based on the book " The Monster Bed" by Jeanne Willis.
This book is a twist the common "Monsters under the bed". This time the monster is scared that their are human kids under his bed. The main character is Dennis the monster and the little boy WHO comes out of his bed is about 4 yrs old.

Directions:( for me I like to have an idea, picture, imagination something that'll get me focus and ready to write) The students will create their own monster, Or if they choose what kind of monster they'll be, how would they look like. After creating their personal monsters, write a short story about them.

Steps: 1. Read the story " The Monster Bed"
2. Discuss/ask questions: How the monster felt being afraid of children like them.
Who is afraid at night and how they could change the feeling after reading this story?
3. Gather materials; colors,markers,construction paper, paper plates etc...
4. Briefly explain what they are going to use the materials for and the choose they had to
be a monster or have a friend monster.
5. Incorporate Talk as an activity to allow children to explain what kind of monster they'll
be or who their monster friend is.
6. Now that they had gather though and idea to write a short story about who they are or
adventures they had with their friend the monster.
