Chapter 4
It is very important as an educator to understand that a child ability to read or write has to do with a childs personal background. If the child parents dont know how to read and write we can't espect for the child to be a great reader or writer. The child will be a slower learner but with the understanding and proper education he/she will learn to read and write. Most literacy is experienced in poor and middle class families. Children first learn to recognize a symbol before the can recognize aword. Sometimes as parents we confuse this and assume they could read. The child learns to write when he/she picks up a color and scribbles on the walls. Thier concept of writing for fun or by sharing thier feeling on pictures. Phonemic awareness in child is one of the best ways that a child learns first. The repeating of songs and rhyms make it easier for them to understand the ability of reading.
In a personal connection this chapter taught me how important my job as a mother is in setting good examples to the children. The most important thing I learn is that it is'nt to late to start incorporating this ideas with them. Education is the steping stone to our children's future and if i could help concrete the first step sorrectly they will have a stronger foundation.
This material applies to the class room in understanding that not all child are have the same dackground in reading and writing and that as an elementary teacher our challenge is to not just teach but to make them understand and incorporate into everyday learning.
